ABOUT US
We raise Toggenburgs and Lamanchas.
Getting involed with Goats:
I fell in love with the goats in 1980 when my parents bought a goat for my sister, after she had begged and begged them for a goat. My dad told mom to get her a goat to “get it out of her system” well my sister lives in New Mexico and the goats are a distance memory but…………………….. I don’t think the goats will ever be out of my system, and now it’s in my kids system too. I started in 1980 with a grade toggenburg and after two buck years, family friends and mentors Dick and Bev Harper gave me my first purebred doe Glencliff Bettina in 1982. My mom and I raised and showed toggenburgs until 2001 when we sold all the goats. I just couldn’t stay away from the goats and along with my cousin Sherry Barnes got back into the goats in 2006. In 2008 when I wanted Toggenburgs again I went to my friend Mary Sue Lesitgo of Dewmar-Acres in Payton Colorado. All three does we got from Mary Sue go back to my first goat, and DEWMAR-ACRES SEBASTIN'S LOUISE is the granddaughter of my last champion doe.
I am so lucky that my daughters love the goats as much as I do. My oldest Ellen was born in 1990 and showed the toggs with me, and showed for anyone that would let her. In the mid 90’s Ellen fell in love with lamanchas and a family friend gave Ellen her first doe. When we got back into goats Ellen’s love for the lamanhcas lead to getting a retired champion DOUBLE-T-RANCH DUTCH SHIMMER, who now lives the good life as brood doe and herd boss. Ellen and I are working together in breeding the toggs and improve our genetics. Ellen is also researching lamancha herd that she would like a doe out of.
Edye born in 1999 also loves the lamanchas and got her first one in 2007 CASH-FARMS HD'S LEMON BAR-B She loves the goats and shows in both open shows and 4H. She gained a lot of ring experience this summer showing for anyone and everyone who would let her. She is currently working to earn money for a Nubian doe.
At eight years old Greta caught the bug in the kidding season this year and fell in love with a togg/ lamancha cross doe. She will be joining 4h this year and can’t wait for her first goat to kid.
For the past year now, my sister Lynda and mother Patty have been making some soap and lotion. This year they have started going to the farmers market in the Socorro, New Mexico and have been doing well selling the soap and lotion. Their success has prompted me to start going to our farmers market here in Pueblo, Colorado.
ABOUT OUR GOATS
We strive to raise productive quality animal. We want them to be competive in the show ring and put milk in the pail. We believe management is the most important aspect in allowing our animals to develop to their full potential. Our animals eat only the best feed available. We feed high quality alfalfa hay, 4-way sweet feed with beet pulp and calf manna and provide free choice soda, salt and mineral supplement. All births are attended and kids are fed heat-treated colostrum for the first 36 hours and pasteurized goat milk from a lamb bar until weaning. Kids are grouped by age, allowing for each kid to get individual attention producing very friendly, healthy kids that can develop to their full genetic potential.
The herd is on 305-day DHIA testing, and we participate in Linear Appraisal every other year. We value the importance of these tools and what they add to our breeding program.
